Not Voting The Ruling Party Will Not Affect Our Basic and Constitutional Rights

In aftermath of the 13th general elections (GE13), the two main Chinese-based Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, namely MCA and SUPP had sounded their frustration over the rejection by the Chinese community onto their parties' candidacy.

MCA has went into the extend of calling on all its leaders not to accept any government positions anymore. For those who are now holding government position were instructed to tender their mass resignations. On the other side, Sarawak's SUPP had voiced their dismay over their poor performance by stating that by voting the Oppositions as representatives, would mean the Chinese community had in fact lost their rights and place to voice their grievances in the government.

According to both MCA and SUPP again, there will be no more Chinese representatives in the BN governments and other related bodies as they have been summarily rejected by the people in the last GE13. It has also been reported that MCA has start closing down most of its service centres nationwide in show of their frustrations over the people's verdict recently.

MCA and SUPP are clearly demonstrating their frustration onto the people, especially the Chinese community who had overall voted the two parties' candidates out in the GE13. MCA and SUPP were in fact angry over their dismal performance and blamed the people over their massive losses, pledged no to service the community anymore. Is that the way they accept their defeats politically? Does that mean MCA and SUPP has given up hope on our nations political arena?

Instead of looking into their own weaknesses, they are shifting the entire blame onto our people, saying that the people has been ungrateful of their good deeds over the years. In addition, they are also threatening the Chinese community that there will be no more Chinese representatives in the next BN government in both federal and state levels. The Chinese community will also have nowhere to voice their concerns anymore since they had decided to vote for the Oppositions. According to MCA and SUPP, the Chinese community will eventually lost all their rights, privileges and other facilities in the future since the next BN government will have no Chinese representation.

Sounds like a misleading threat, isn't it so? Well, whatever both MCA and SUPP are saying right now are very misleading. They are merely voicing their frustration over the people, especially onto the Chinese community who didn't want to vote for them in the last GE13.

This is the facts. Voting for the Opposition parties, by disregarding the ruling party does not mean that the people will eventually lose their rights, privileges or any other facilities being citizens of Malaysia. It has no effect to the people at all as such process is merely the democratic rights of our people too, in accordance to the Federal Constitution.

In this case, it is wrong for MCA and SUPP to mention such words to the people in view of their recent electoral defeats. MCA and SUPP has no right to punish the people who had made their democratic choices  in the GE13 and the people will continue to do so, if MCA and SUPP were to continue to shun the people as a mark of protest on their own dismal performances.

Both MCA and SUPP must also understand that in a democratic process, it is the people who decides who should run the country or a state via general elections. Political parties who contest in these elections must work their way up to convince the people of their worth to be on top there as well as to run the nation. In this case, did MCA and SUPP really prove their worth? Did they really know why are they suffering such setback again? Have they analyse their status and positions within the ruling BN coalition and what are the real effects and implications that had jeopardize their political stature at large? Don't blame the people. By blaming the people, means denying them of their democratic and constitutional rights.

Common sense would demonstrate that MCA and SUPP has no right to blame the people, nor telling the people that their basic rights would be gone if those two BN component parties are not voted in and there will be Chinese representation in the BN governments. By making all these unbecoming statements, MCA and SUPP are making the people even angrier.

Unless, if the BN has the absolute majority i.e. two-thirds or more in the parliament, and decides to shift the entire nation towards a one-party dictatorship by amending the Federal Constitution, abolishing the basic democratic and human rights of our people, then it would be a different story. But again, because of the reduced majority of the BN currently, do they have the ability to do so? It would be impossible, unless if BN were to decide to adopt a harsher ways and means i.e. using military powers, the police force, etc to curb and oppress the people.

Anyway, we strongly believe that such situation would not happen. So, both MCA and SUPP should stop making their immature statements or actions and start looking at the mirror instead.
